Table of Contents
Top Travel Apps for Accommodation
Agoda
Agoda is one of my favorite travel apps for accommodation because the app searches through multiple hotel booking websites to find you the absolute best deals. You can select multiple filters to make sure the hotel you’re looking for is right for you and your budget.
Air BNB

I love Airbnb because it’s really easy to find comfortable and affordable accommodation. Plus your money goes to locals rather than big chain hotels, so it’s a bit more sustainable as well. With Airbnb, you can find shared houses and make friends easily with locals or you can get a house, apartment, or cabin all to yourself!
Hostel World

Hostel World is my third favorite travel app because it’s perfect for if your budget is tight. Staying in hostels is also a really great way to meet other travelers. I’m still friends with many people I’ve met at hostels over five years ago!
Top Travel Apps for Flights
Secret Flying

Secret Flying is my all-time favorite travel app for finding cheap flights. Just download the app on your phone, set your departure city (along with some other departure cities that are close to you & easy to get to) and Secret Flying will scour the web for the best flight deals all over the world! I have another blog post specifically on how to find cheap flights with extra information on how to use Secret Flying that you can read here.
Kayak
Kayak is another travel app that I personally love for finding cheap flights. It compares flight prices on various websites to each other to ensure that you find the best deal possible.
Skyscanner
Skyscanner is a flight app that has some really cool features. For example, instead of selecting certain dates for your trip, you can select ‘Whole Month’ to find what time in the month is the cheapest to fly to your destination. You can also select ‘Everywhere’ instead of selecting a destination to explore where is cheapest to fly to from your departure city.

Top Travel Apps for Transit & Bussing
BusBud

BusBud allows you to compare prices and routes from hundreds of bus companies. This is an affordable and sustainable way to travel between cities. Plus, this way when you get to the bus station, you can skip the line because you’ll already have your ticket!
Waze
Waze is such an amazing app if you’re into road-tripping. Waze predicts how much traffic is clogging up certain streets and gives you directions to skip the traffic jams! It cuts your driving time down a lot which in turn saves you some gas money.
Transit
Transit is the perfect app for navigating a new city. Just type in your current location and your desired destination and Transit will tell you exactly which metros and buses to take to get there.
Uber
Uber is a car-sharing app where drivers can make a bit of extra cash by giving you rides. I honestly prefer using Transit to Uber since it’s cheaper, but Uber is great to use in cities that don’t have good public transportation systems.
Top Travel Apps for Maps
Google Maps
Google Maps is great for getting directions to different places and there are also settings that allow you to see what buses to take to get somewhere or how far you need to walk or drive. It’s good for walking, taking public transit, or driving. I also like that you can pin places that interest you. Doing this allows you to go into a new area, see what places you’ve pinned there, and visit them all quickly and efficiently.
City Maps 2 Go (Offline)
I love City Maps 2 Go because you can download their maps to use offline. This allows you to figure out where you are and use maps to navigate a city even without using data on your phone. This way you can get around in a foreign country without having to unlock your phone and buy a local SIM card. City Maps 2 Go also has offline maps for biking and hiking trails so you don’t get lost in the wilderness!
Top Travel App for Itineraries and Trip Planning
Trip It

Trip It is a fantastic app for organizing your itineraries. With TripIt you can include maps and important information in your itineraries. It even allows you to save flight and hotel information so you have everything you need all in one place!
Top Travel Apps for Translation
Google Translate
You can use Google Translate to type out words you want to say and translate them to almost any language! It also has a camera function that allows you to take a picture of things like menus or maps and have them translated into your native language. If you’re not sure how to pronounce something you can click the microphone button and Google Translate will pronounce it for you so you can practice it easily.
iTranslate Voice & AR Camera Translation
iTranslate is another great translation app. With iTranslate, you can speak into the app directly and have it automatically translate your speech. iTranslate also has AR Camera Translation so you can translate menus, maps, and brochures. It even has an offline translation feature!
Top Travel App for Tours & Activities
Get Your Guide

Get Your Guide is full of incredible tours and activities to do around the world. Whether you want to ride a hot air balloon, take a cooking class, or hike a volcano, Get Your Guide has options for you.
Top Travel App for Finances
XE Currency Converter
XE Currency Converter is pretty self-explanatory. With this app, you can easily convert your home currency to the local currency where you’re traveling. This will help you not to spend too much money. It may also help you to not get ripped off!
Top Travel Apps for Making Friends Abroad
MeetUp

MeetUp is such a good travel app for making friends abroad! You can find meet-ups and groups of people who have things in common with you. For example, there are outdoor yoga meetups, book club meetups, wine lover meetups, and more! It’s a great way to find other people in your area who have similar interests.
Bumble BFF
Bumble BFF is another great app for meeting new people! With Bumble BFF it’s kind of like a dating app but for finding friends. You can connect with locals and fellow travelers alike!
